SQUINT AT THE FINDERS KEEPERS MARKET – MELBOURNE
JULY 12-14, 2019
Squint is a ready-to-wear fashion brand founded in 2016 by Ellie Vallely in her hometown of Edinburgh. Now based and handmade in her Melbourne studio, the name Squint is a Scottish word meaning ‘off kilter’, it is a ‘wink’ to Ellie’s Scottish roots. Squint’s ethos is to be aspirational but accessible by balancing pieces with handwork and textile manipulation with affordable pieces. Every collection has a unique voice but each celebrate naivety of shape, nostalgia and colour whilst remaining grounded through classic detailing.
Squint is described by Frankie Mag as ‘big, brash and dainty all at once’. The Squint customer buys special pieces but wears them everyday, not afraid to fall over, sit in the grass and go dancing but treasure them. An inclusive community is a foundation of the brand, so Squint’s size range now extends to a size 4XL (AU26) and Ellie works with women who have different shapes, backgrounds and have strong looks such as Frances Cannon who has worn Squint to events.
